I never in my wildest dreams ever thought I could be so enamored, so mesmerized, so completely taken with someone who displays the ability to look to the left and then look to the right and then look back to the left and back to the right, but I am. Dacian and I got to be alone with Alex in a little room all to ourselves for an hour. And I got to hold him in my arms and on my lap, and couldn't for the life of me have a single care in the world about anything outside that room. For ten minutes I stared at Alex's face while he looked around and I relished every moment of it.
Many of you have been calling for updates so here it is up until Tuesday night.
He was born Saturday night and immediately taken to the NICU because he had low blood sugar. Sunday morning we learn that he could have a bacterial infection. So, he was hooked up to an IV and fed glucose and antibodies. Monday morning he had a seizure that lasted 6 minutes. So, he was taken to a differnt floor and had a CAT scan and specialists were called from another hospital to give him and EEG where they hooked wires all over his head to measure brain activity. They also gave him one more thing through the IV to prevent any more siezures.
That's the bad news, and it's still hard to think about.
Here's the good news...
We saw him today and the above story was what happened wherein we got to spend an hour alone together with him. The reason for that chance was that the gulcose worked and so did the antibodies meaning he no longer needed to be hooked up to the IV. The CAT scan showed that the siezure was most likely caused by the less serious and more probable cause which was some blood above the brain which will eventually be absorbed. He is sleeping comfortably and eating very well, Dacian even got to breast feed him. He will very likely be moved out of the NICU tonight or tomorrow which means the doctors and nurses will no longer be quite as concerned. We will learn the results of the EEG test tomorrow and that will tell us if there is any reason to fear another siezure. If all things go well, and in all likely hood they will, he should be able to come home on Thursday.
I want to thank everyone for their prayers and how much much love you have given us. I know that sounds horribly cliche but it is very true. You have meant so much to us it really can't be expressed here. We even appreciate the Pranksters.
The next blog entry should be of Alex's homecoming!

I wish I had a little happy, smiley, dancing, cheering, smiley face to do a dance for you. I'm so very happy that things are going so well! PRAISE GOD! He is awesome and deserves every bit of praise we can give him! I hope things continue to go well, that the EEG comes back completely normal, and that Alex will be at home in your arms soon. We love you all. Call us if you need ANYTHING!
P.S.-If I find out who those pranksters are, I'll be sure to let you know...
Great news!
Alex is a handsome young man and I am sure that he will continue to amaze you with things beyond looking left and right.
When he gets a little older, you will want to tell him not to look to the left or the right, but to be strong and courageous.
This has been a courageous week for the Keatons.. well done!
PS. I think Michelle knows the pranksters
I am so happy for you all...God has certainly been with you and will continue to be there with you. Alex is beautiful. Cherish every moment with him because tomorrow he will be starting pre-school, next week will be elementary school, a month will be high school graduation then off to college the week after that. I always thought that was an exaggeration but it's turning out to be true. Use as much film as you need to capture every thing he does. You'll only regret it if you don't. With love and Prayers...
