Puerto Rico

The day we left outside our hotel We love Hilton points!

Dacian by the water. Look at her belly! 16 weeks pregnant

Duane from our room's balcony. What a lovely view.

Duane at an old Spanish fort. This is in Old San Juan - a very beautiful place to explore.

The streets of Old San Juan. This was the best picture we could get because there were too many people milling around on all the other ones.

We just got back from our trip to Puerto Rico. My Spanish 4 teacher would have been proud as I remembered enough from 15 years ago (am I that old???) that I was able to order food and have simple conversations. I was tickled that I was able to do that. The hotel was in between two places that we walked to: Old San Juan, and the Condado area. Both offered interesting things but Old San Juan was clearly more there for the tourists as there were two Spanish forts from 500(?) years ago, the national museum of art, and it was just quite a bit cleaner and more tourist friendly. We walked quite a bit from one place to another which was fine. It wasn't as hot as you might think after 4 or 5, which is when we did most of the walking. Before that time we did a variety of activities around the hotel.
One of the most interesting things was the San Jaun Bautista festival which happened to be during our little vacation. It is a national(?) holiday in honor of John the Baptist and seemed to be quite a large deal. There were people all over the place gathering at different beaches, having picnics, camping out, live music, and a countdown toward midnight. At the stroke of tweleve the tradition is that people walk backward into the ocean and do 7 backflips (Not kidding!) which somehow wash away peoples' sins. I'll leave out all the obvious comments and simply say it was quite unusual in that I had never heard of anything like that before.
I hope all is well with everyone.
God bless you.

If I had to do ANY backflips to cleanse me of my sins... I'd never make it to heaven...
